European Court of Justice cases

This will provide up-to-date information on European Court of Justice (ECJ) cases that are relevant to intellectual property rights.

It should maximise the time available for interested parties to make comments on particular cases, and the email alert service will automatically send you a notification by email when a new case is posted on our website.

References from National Courts to the European Court of Justice on Intellectual Property Rights

The table includes preliminary rulings where national courts submit questions concerning the interpretation or validity of a provision of Community law for intellectual property cases, and Appeals against Judgements from the Court of First Instance (CFI). We will include the following information in the table:

  • Deadline by which the ECJ requires any observations or interventions for Appeals from the CFI from the United Kingdom (UK);
  • Whether the UK has submitted observations or statement of intervention for Appeals from the CFI;
  • Date for Hearing as and when known;
  • Date that an Opinion or Judgment will be or was delivered;
  • Whether a case has been stayed this can occur at any stage.

You can find the questions referred to in the ECJ by following the link from the case reference in the first column, and for Appeals there is a link to the judgement from the CFI that is under appeal. Where an Opinion or Judgment has been delivered by the ECJ you can follow the link in the last column to the relevant entry on the ECJ website.
