Newport, South Wales
The Patent Office, now an Executive Agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), moved to its premises in Newport, South Wales in 1991. This was particularly successful for the implementation of IT equipment.
Although we said farewell to many valued members of staff in London, The Patent Office gained the loyalty and quality of staff recruited in the Newport area.
In April 2002, The Patent Office joined the Innovation Group within the DTI.
In June 2007, The UK Intellectual Property Office joined the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).
This new Department brought together functions from the former Department of Trade and Industry, including responsibilities for science and innovation, with further and higher education and skills, previously part of the Department for Education and Skills.
