Salary

Administrative staff

  • Pay span A1 - GBP £14,597
  • Pay span A2 - GBP £15,637
  • Pay span A3 - GBP £16,485 - £18,117

Patent Examining staff

  • Pay span B2 - GBP £22,808 - £25,920
  • Patent Examining staff are also entitled to a pensionable allowance of £1,500 per annum in addition to their salary.

All pay rates are as of 1 August 2009.

Working hours

A standard working day is 7 hours and 24 minutes and the working week is 37 hours excluding lunch breaks. We offer a flexible working system. You can work between 07:00 and 19:00 and there are no core hours.

Leave

Full time staff will have 26 days annual leave, which rises to 30 days after 5 years. You will also get 10.5 days public and privilege leave.

Staff are also entitled to maternity/paternity leave, special leave and unpaid career breaks.

Pensions are provided under the civil service pension scheme External Link.

Childcare

We offer childcare facilities on-site and off-site although places are limited. We also provide pre-school child vouchers and play schemes during Easter and Summer for children aged between 5 and 12 for a small fee.

We take training and develpment seriously and have a Learning Resource Centre which offers a variety of training aids covering a wide range of subjects.

Sports and social

All staff automatically become a member of POSSA which organises all sports and social activities in the Office, including trips to London and an annual Sports Day which is organised with the Office for National Statistics.

We have a well equipped gym which you can join for a small annual fee and wide range of clubs and societies, which include snooker, bridge club, golfing society and a horticultural society.

Newport site facilities

We have a staff restaurant and deli bar, shop, shower facilities, a hairdresser and on-site car parking.

Health and wellbeing

We provide a staff counselling service and free eyesight tests are available to all staff using Display Screen Equipment.
