Andrew Layton

Trade Marks and Designs Director

Appointed Trade Marks and Designs Director in January 2008.

Andy had an earlier career as an officer and then governor grade in HM Prison Service in which he had a number of operational and policy jobs.

He held earlier posts in the Export Control Organisation of DTI, managing the teams responsible for assessing applications submitted by companies and individuals for licences to export strategically controlled goods

From 2004 until he joined the office, he was the Director in DTI (and then BERR) responsible for civil nuclear energy liabilities policy and for the establishment and subsequent oversight of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Andrew Layton Trade marks and designs represent huge, in some cases incalculable, value to the companies and individuals that own them and we need to make sure that the processes and services we have for registering them continues to meet the needs of business.
