National IP Crime Strategy
Our role
The Government's Innovation Review, published in December 2003 tasked us developing a new national strategy for dealing with IP crime, which was launched in 2004. We have set up a specialist team to specifically look at how IP Crime damages our society and businesses in the United Kingdom and overseas.
Criminal networks are quick to exploit areas of weakness and to adopt new technology. Combating IP crime requires a new and co-ordinated approach and our objective is to create and co-ordinate a response to that threat.
We work to:
- Carry out our National IP
Crime Strategy
(260Kb)
and publish an Annual Enforcement Report - Bring together government policy-makers, industry and enforcers
to create a co-ordinated approach to IP enforcement
- Establish an accurate measurement of IP
crime within the UK
- Identify areas of threat and specific harm
- Support training for enforcement officers and spread best practice
- Build a more consistent approach to enforcement of IP
crime
- Raise consumer awareness
Note: We are not a prosecuting authority.
Annual IP Crime Report
We will publish an annual IP Crime Report, which will review our progress and set targets for future for future work.
The National IP Intelligence System database
We have developed an intelligence-system to inform the targeting of enforcement work.
Intellectual property crime group
