Freedom of Information
Welcome to the Intellectual Property Office’s Freedom of Information website. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) grants any person of any nationality the right to request to see information held by us.
These pages set out how you can request information from us under the FOIA as well as allowing you to view information released under the Act. They also explain our Publication Scheme. The Data Protection Act (DPA) is also covered, which amongst other things grants an individual the right to their own personal information.
If you require statistical information on the numbers and/or types of patent, trade mark and design applications received and processed this is available in our publication area under the Annual reports heading.
If you require other information, you can check if the information is already available to you in our Publication Scheme. This will tell you about information we publish as a matter of course, how the information is published, and whether the information is available, free of charge or on payment. You can also view information that has been released in response to requests under the FOIA in the Disclosure log section of this website.
If we do not already publish the information you are seeking, or if it has not previously been released under the FOIA, you can make a request for the information. See our advice on Requesting Information.
Further background on the FOIA and DPA can be found on the Information Commissioner's website .
