Cancelling
If you miss a renewal date, we will cancel your patent. To avoid this and keep your patent in force up to a maximum of 20 years, make sure you renew your patent every year from the 5th year after you apply.
If we cancel your patent, you may be able to restore it.
Renew your patent
Send us form 12 and pay the appropriate fee to renew your patent.
Restore your patent
You can ask us to restore your patent within 19 months of the patent cancellation. Send us form 16, supported by evidence, and pay a fee. If you are successful, you must send us all outstanding renewal fees.
