Patent Office picks top students in Go Green! competition
Students, aged 14 - 16 years old, from across the United Kingdom (UK) are vying for the top places in The Patent Office’s THINK kit Go Green! Competition.
The Go Green! Competition is the latest in a series of annual competitions run by The Patent Office to complement the educational resource THINK kit.
The Go Green! Competition was launched in January 2006 and was open to Design and Technology and Business Studies students. There were two strands to the Go Green! Competition, Design and Technology students were asked to design a device that monitors the amount of energy used in the home and Business Studies students were asked to develop a marketing campaign promoting the environment benefits of such a device.
Over 200 entries have been received and whittled down to a shortlist, detailed below, the winners have been chosen and have been invited to the THINK kit Awards Ceremony in London on Wednesday 5 July 2006. Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science and Innovation will be presenting the awards which include two prizes of £1000.
Dave Morgan, Education and Enterprise manager at The Patent Office, says
"The aim of the THINK kit is to assist students in understanding the significance of Intellectual Property in the commercial world. The competition aims to get the students thinking about Intellectual Property and clearly the students have shown a good grasp of Intellectual Property issues and have keen business minds and a sharp eye for detail."

- The announcement of the winners and award ceremony will take place 5 July 2006.
- Winners in the Design and Technology and Business Studies categories will receive £250 worth of vouchers, up to £1000 for their school and a trip to the awards ceremony in London
- Runners-up in the categories will receive £100 worth of vouchers and a trip to the awards ceremony in London.
- An extra prize will be given to the best overall entry.
