New Minister of Intellectual Property visits Newport

Baroness Morgan of Drefelin has praised the drive and professionalism of the UK Intellectual Property Office after her first visit to the Newport Office on Thursday 14 February.

The recently appointed Minister visited the UK Intellectual Property Office, which is part of the Department for Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS), to get a fuller understanding of Intellectual Property Rights, how the office works and to meet the teams.

Baroness Morgan of Drefelin is Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Intellectual Property & Quality and Lords Minister for the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

She said:

"I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to meet the teams at the UK Intellectual Property Office and have been impressed with their dynamism and commitment. It is more vital than it has ever been that UK businesses should have an intellectual property system that is as well designed and smoothly operating as it possibly can be.”

Ian Fletcher CEO of the UK-IPO said,

“Baroness Morgan of Drefelin has seen first hand the important role Intellectual Property plays in the UK economy. Intellectual Property is central to the translation of knowledge and creativity into value through innovation.”
