Inaugural Chair appointed for the Strategic Advisory Board for Intellectual Property (SABIP)
Following an open competition, Joly Dixon, CMG has been appointed as Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board for Intellectual Property. Making the formal appointment, John Denham, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills said,
"I am delighted to appoint Joly Dixon as the inaugural Chair of SABIP. He brings a breadth of experience, a strategic insight into IP and leadership skills which will be key to the success of SABIP’s work. Baroness Morgan, Minister for Intellectual Property, and I look forward to working with him".
Joly Dixon has worked extensively in the public sector promoting well researched economic policy making. He spent most of his professional life in the European Commission where he was Jacques Delors’ economic adviser and later Director for international economic affairs. He also served as Deputy Special Representative in the UN’s mission to Kosovo and played a leading role in fiscal reform in Bosnia. Joly currently has part time assignments with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the IPO. He is a Statistics Commissioner and chairs the Fiscal Policy Panel in Jersey.
Joly's appointment will be for an initial period of 2 years and he will be paid £20,000 p.a.
This is a public appointment which has been made in accordance with the Code of Practice of the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA). It has been made on merit in an open competition and political activity played no part in the selection process. In accordance with the requirement for appointees’ political activity to be made public, Joly Dixon, like all applicants, has filled in a political activity questionnaire in which no political activity has been declared.

- SABIP was set up following a recommendation of the Gowers Review of intellectual Property. It will operate as a non-departmental public body helping to provide a strategic overview of IP policy in the context of the wider economy.
