The Creative Economy paper

DCMS, BERR and DIUS in February 2008.
set out a strategy for the creative industries. It included twenty-six commitments for Government and industry, three of the commitments deal specifically with Intellectual Property. These are:
Commitment 15, We will consult on legislation that would require internet service providers and right holders to co-operate in taking action on illegal file sharing - with a view to implementing legislation by April 2009.
The Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform launched
a consultation
on 24 July 2008.
Commitment 16, Intellectual Property Office will put into action a plan on IP enforcement
This includes:
- Explore options for voluntary enforcement funds;
- Pilot a "Fake Free London" campaign on IP enforcement;
- Establish and fund a National Centre of Excellence;
- Work with Trading Standards Officers;
- Work with the Association of Chief Police Officers;
- Establish a Ministerial and Industry forum;
- Consult on exceptional summary maxima for copyright infringement.
Commitment 17, We will promote better understanding of the value and importance of Intellectual Property,
The Government will work with schools and industry to ensure that relevant IP is considered as part of the forthcoming primary curriculum review and consideration is given to including it in the Principal Learning element of relevant diplomas as specifications are reviewed.
