Draft Glasgow Commonwealth Games Bill
Consultation document
Glasgow
is bidding to host
the Commonwealth
Games in 2014. If Scotland wins its bid, legislation will be required to support the delivery of the
Games and to protect them from ambush marketing. The Scottish Executive have recently launched a consultation
on a Draft Glasgow Commonwealth Games Bill
. The consultation sets out their plans
to deal with ambush marketing, but points out that intellectual
property is a reserved issue under the Scotland Act 1998 and therefore any provisions will need to be
delivered by the UK Government.
We have had initial discussions with the Scottish Executive as to what new intellectual property provisions might be needed to prevent ambush marketing if they win their bid to host for Commonwealth Games in 2014. But we would welcome any comments that might aid our further discussions with them to develop relevant intellectual property provisions.
Please e-mail any comments to policy@ipo.gov.uk by the closing date (21 September).
