Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 - Ambush Marketing
Glasgow won the bid in November 2007 to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act was passed by the Scottish Parliament in 2008. A condition of the successful bid was that the requirements of the Commonwealth Games Federation be met which includes legislation to be set in place by 2010 to support the delivery of the Games and to provide protection from ambush marketing.
As intellectual property is a reserved matter under the Scotland Act 1998, any legislation required concerning intellectual property is the responsibility of the UK Government. To ensure this protection can apply across the UK, an Order will be taken forward by the Scotland Office under Section 104 of the Scotland Act in consequence of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008. This Section 104 Order will make provisions to protect the intellectual property rights of the 2014 Games and a summary of the S104 Order can be found on our website.
We welcome any comments that might assist in the finalisation of this Section 104 Order.
Please e-mail any comments to IPEnforcement@ipo.gov.uk by the closing date of 27 April 2009.
