EU Consultation
Review of EU legislation on Copyright and Related Rights
The
European Commission have launched a consultation
on working paper SEC (2004) 995
(19/7/04) reviewing EU legislation in the field of copyright and related rights. The Commission working
paper suggests that current EU copyright legislation is generally effective and consistent, but would
benefit from fine-tuning. The Commission ask for comments on the paper, which they will consider before
finalising draft legislative proposals.
We understand that many UK interest groups have received the review document direct or via European umbrella groups, but this can also be accessed together with the associated press notice via the link above to the consultation note.
The Consultation is open until 31 October 2004.
