Peer-to-peer filesharing

BERR consultation

The Department of Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform launched a consultation External Link on the legislative options to address illicit peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing on 24 July 2008.

The consultation takes forward Recommendation 39 of the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property which addressed the issue of illicit use of P2P and the Government’s commitment in the 'Creative Britain: New talents for the New Economy' Strategy published in February 2008. Included in the consultation is a copy of a voluntary Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), that has been signed by a number of internet service providers, key music and film right holders and Government departments.

The closing date for response to the consultation is 30 October 2008.
