Copyright exceptions
In January 2008, we launched the first part of a two stage consultation entitled: 'Taking forward the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property: Proposed changes to copyright exceptions'. It considered the potential introduction of two new exceptions: for format shifting (a limited form of private copying) and parody, caricature and pastiche. It also discussed potential changes to other exceptions covering education, libraries and archives, and research and private study.
The consultation closed on Tuesday 8 April 2008, however the document is still available for you to view.
We were pleased with the high level of response to the first consultation. A brief summary of the responses we received are available below.
Latest news
The second stage of the consultation was launched on 11 December 2009. Views are sought on the draft legislation and the accuracy of the impact assessments by 31 March 2010.
