Late grant
If we grant your patent later than 3 years 9 months after the filing date, this is a late grant and special conditions apply.
The first renewal fee is due 3 months after the grant date, making the payment due date the last day of that month.
For all other years, the renewal fees are due on the last day of the month of the anniversary of the filing date.
This means that you may have to pay more than 1 renewal fee in a 12-month period.
If you have a European Patent (EP) covering the United Kingdom (UK), granted more than 3 years and 9 months after the filing date, you do not have to pay renewal fees for the years before grant, as you will have paid maintenance fees to the European Patent Office (EPO).
