Branding in a modern economy

The 'Branding in a Modern Economy' conference took place at the BIS Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, on 11 November 2009.

The purpose of the conference was to place the spotlight on branding as an economic force in the UK, its current place in Government policy and the potential to leverage greater value, wealth and jobs. This initiative is being led by The Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Minister for Higher Education and Intellectual Property.

The Intellectual Property Office was delighted to host this important and hopefully defining conference and we would like to express our thanks to our partners, the British Brands Group and the CBI; those organisations who ran and facilitated the workshops, the Whitehall and Industry Group, the CBI, the Design Council and the Institute of practitioners in Advertising (IPA); and to Speechly Bircham who recorded the conference and workshops and who will be helping further with the report.

We are particularly grateful to all the delegates who attended the conference and for the input they gave on how the UK may improve its performance in creating and building brands

The introductory paper published by the Intellectual Property Office and copies of the speaker’s presentations are available below.

Please note, the following two presentations, were given without the use of presentation slides.
