Closure of the Patent Status Enquiry Web Service

1 March 2013

This notice confirms that the Patent Status Enquiry (PSE) web service (sometimes called the Patents Register service) was closed, as planned, on 1 March 2013.

22 February 2013

As outlined in the Advance Notice below, this message is to confirm that the Patent Status Enquiry service will close next Friday, 1 March 2013.

In the run-up to the closure of the service we have been making gradual changes to re-direct links from PSE to Ipsum. If you have created any bookmarks for the Patent Status Enquiry service, we suggest you change these to point to our Ipsum service.

If you have any questions please contact our Information Centre 0300 300 2000 or complete our feedback form.

31 January 2013

As outlined in the Advance Notice below, it is no longer cost effective to continue to maintain the Patent Status Enquiry service in parallel with our new and improved free web service, Ipsum, which offers access to all the same information and many more features. To ease the transition away from Patent Status, we have now completed the process of changing the links on our website so they point to Ipsum rather than the Patent Status Enquiry service.

With effect from 31 January 2013 we changed the links on the following pages:

Online Patent Services

Search patents

We have also updated the following pages in relation to their text content:

  • Green Channel Patent Applications Data
  • Licence Of Right (LOR) Data
  • Not In Force (NIF) Data

These are the last of the transitional changes before the Patent Status Enquiry Service closes on the 1 of March 2013.

We will issue our last notice a week before closure.

19 November 2012

As foreshadowed in the Advance Notice below, to ease the transition away from Patent Status we have started to change some of the current links on our website from the Patent Status Enquiry service to Ipsum.

With effect from 19 November 2012 we changed the links on the following pages:

Searchable Patents Journal

Patents Publication Enquiry

Patents Status Enquiry

  • Patents Status Enquiry

We have also updated the following pages in relation to their text content:

  • EP/UK patents
  • UK applications granted
  • UK applications published
  • Other proceedings

We are planning to make further transitional changes in January 2013, before Patent Status finally closes in March.

4 October 2012

What is the Patent Status Enquiry Web Service?

Patent Status Enquiry - launched in1997, this free service provides you with status information about published patent applications and granted patents. It allows you to search our on-line patents register by publication or application number for the current status or complete status history of a published patent application or a granted patent.

Why we have decided to close it?

It is no longer cost effective to continue to maintain a service which has been superseded by our new and improved free web service, Ipsum which offers access to all the same information and many more features.

What features does Ipsum have?

Ipsum provides all the information currently available via the Patent Status Enquiry service and lots more. You can view search and examination reports, correspondence on a patent application case-file, classification and citation information, and click through to published patent specifications.

When will the Patent Status Enquiry Web Service close?

We'll be closing it in March 2013. We'll formally notify you of the exact date, but we are encouraging all remaining users of the service to move to using Ipsum now.

What do I need to do?

In the run-up to the closure of the service we will make gradual changes to the links to Ipsum on our website, as well as other information. These changes will re-direct users to Ipsum. If you have created any bookmarks for the Patent Status Enquiry, we suggest you change these to point at our Ipsum service.

Where can I find out more?

So you don't forget about the closure of the Patent Status Enquiry service we will issue reminders.

If you have any questions please contact our Information Centre 0300 300 2000 or complete our feedback form.
