Procurement strategy

Overall aim

Procurement Unit will seek to achieve best value for money in the purchase of all goods and services, and provide professional procurement services which best support the business needs of the Intellectual Property Office.

Objectives

  • Ensure compliance with EU and UK government procurement legislation and identify appropriate strategies that deliver best vfm solutions to the organisation.
  • Raise both the awareness and profile of procurement to a position where it can better influence the strategic business requirements of the organisation.
  • Identify collaborative procurement opportunities through improved knowledge sharing and information exchange between other government departments and agencies, and to utilise existing frameworks as a preferred method of sourcing goods and services.
  • Promote the efficient use of the Government Procurement Card with the aim of minimising processing costs for low value and routine transactions, and incorporate risk management where appropriate.
  • Provide suitable training & development opportunities so that professionally qualified staff undertake best procurement practice.
  • Develop long term relationships and strategic management of key suppliers, including the use of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME's), and the 3rd Sector where appropriate.
  • Consider sustainable development issues in all procurement decision making.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, and professionalism in all of our commercial dealings with 3rd party service providers.
