Requesting entry into the UK national phase online - guidance notes
If you have made an International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application (UK) and wish to secure protection in the UK, you can use this web filing service to request entry to the national phase.
If this is the first time you have made a request for entry into the national phase or if you are unfamiliar with the process, please read the relevant guides before you apply.
Important
You should not web file a request if:
- Your application contains information about military technology or could harm national security or public safety
- You wish to pay for your filing by cash, cheque or bank transfer

This web filing service allows you to complete the following.

| Form NP1 | Request entry to the national phase and, as required, upload associated documents, for example, translation, covering letter, and so on. |
| Form 3 | Make a late declaration of priority, upload supporting evidence for the request and if applicable, upload a digitally signed version of the priority document (US only) or request retrieval of the priority document from Priority Document Access Service (PDAS). |
| Form 7 | Provide inventorship details (if they have not been disclosed under the PCT during the international phase). |
| Form 9A | Request a search. This form is eligible for a fee reduction when filed using this web filing service. |
| Form 10 | Request a substantive examination. This form is eligible for a fee reduction when filed using this web filing service. |
| Form 52 | Extend the period for filing the entry request (NP1) and, if required, upload evidence supporting the extension request. |
PDF documents
Each of the documents that can be uploaded with a web filed request for entry into the UK national phase should be uploaded as a separate PDF file.
Priority documents
The World Intellectual Property Organization operates an electronic depository for priority documents called the Priority Document Access Service (PDAS). Upon request the Intellectual Property Office can obtain copies of priority documents which have been made available from PDAS. With consent the Intellectual Property Office can supply a copy of your application to PDAS to be used as a priority document.
Translation
If your international application is not in English we will require a translation of the relevant document(s). If you ask us to publish the translation, it must be filed with your request.
