File patent forms and/or documents for a pending UK patent application - guidance notes
If you have made a UK patent application, you may need to file additional patent forms and/or documents in order to proceed with your application. Once you have your GB patent application number (GBnnnnnnn.n), you can use this online service to web file the following patent forms and/or documents for that application.
Important
You should not use this web form if:
- Your application contains information about military technology or could harm national security or public safety.
- You wish to pay for your filing by cash, cheque or bank transfer.
- The patent form or document you wish to file is not listed below.
Patent Forms
This web filing service allows you to complete the following.

| Form 52 | Request an extension to a prescribed time limit (and where applicable, upload the associated ‘late’ document and/or any evidence required to support the extension request) |
| PDAS Request | Request to retrieve priority documents from Priority Document Access Service (PDAS) |
Documents
This web filing service allows you to upload the following documents:
- Claims (if they were not filed with the initial application)
- Abstract (if it was not filed with the initial application)
- Replacement pages of the specification (for example, filed in response to an objection raised by a Formalities Examiner in a preliminary examination report made under s15A)
- Amended pages of the specification (for example, filed under s18(3) in response to an objection raised by a Patent Examiner in an examination report or filed under s19(1))
- Translation of priority document (if requested by the Patent Examiner)
- Search reports from other patent offices (if requested by the Patent Examiner)
- Sequence Listing
- Covering letter to accompany the above forms or documents (always required when documents are filed)
If filed, each document should be uploaded as a separate PDF file, except for a sequence listing which should be uploaded as a single .txt file.
Please note that this web form can only be used to file the forms and documents listed above and you can only file documents for one UK patent application at a time. Other forms and documents, e.g. post grant amendments, corrections, later filed descriptions, priority documents, missing pages, requests for certified copies etc. should not be filed using this web form.
Priority documents
The World Intellectual Property Organization operates an electronic depository for priority documents called the Priority Document Access Service (PDAS). Upon request the Intellectual Property Office can obtain copies of priority documents which have been made available from PDAS. With consent the Intellectual Property Office can supply a copy of your application to PDAS to be used as a priority document.
Consent to share results
We would like to share results with other patent offices to promote high quality, efficient patent processing worldwide. If asked for these results before publication of your application we cannot provide them without your consent. Any shared results will not be made public through the other patent office before your application is published in the UK.
