Special characters

If you type a character that cannot be searched, you will get an error message.

You can search for some common keyboard characters. If you are searching to compare trade marks you should also use the word equivalent.

A list of special characters are shown in the first column. Read across the row to find out whether they are searchable and if a search comparison is also available.

Our IT Systems cannot handle some characters that are not in the ISO 8859-1 character set. For print and display purposes we convert them to a similar character, for example, the Euro symbol will either appear as E or Euro depending on the context in which it appears.

Many trade marks contain characters that are not in the standard English alphabet. The display of these characters depends upon your browser complying with certain standards.

A list of lower case non-english characters are listed in teh third column. Read across the row to the fourth column to identify how these characters may be displayed or printed.
