Summary

The application concerns the use of the sides of a curved display screen on a device to indicate the status of the user e.g. busy, do not disturb or free. The nature of the display is determined according to first and second actuation events. An actuation event may include an incoming call, screen touch or movement of the device.

The Hearing Officer applied the reasoning in Aerotel/Macrossan to identify the contribution. Having taken into consideration the prior art he found the contribution to relate to the presentation of information. He also considered the AT&T/Cvon signposts, further finding the application was also excluded as a computer program. The application was refused under Section 18(3).
