Summary

The claims of the specification were amended before grant to include within their scope liquid crystal display constructions which did not include dye, in addition to constructions which did include dye. The specification referred to a specific embodiment which did not use dye, but the claimant argued that the broadening amendment to claim 1 included within its scope a variety of other arrangements which had not been described, and that the broadening amendment therefore extended the matter described beyond that disclosed in the original application. The hearing officer found that the broader wording did not extend the matter disclosed and no order for revocation was made.
