Summary

The claimed invention relates to methods of determining a “smoothed” “description of travel” (such as distance, fare or directions) between two locations using a public transportation system. The invention uses pre-computed and pre-stored information to return query results faster than methods which rely solely upon on-demand calculations. The hearing officer considered whether the invention made a technical contribution in light of the Aerotel approach and the HTC/AT&T signposts. The Hearing Officer found that there was no technical contribution and refused the application since the invention was excluded from patentability as a program for a computer, as such.
