Summary

The application relates to managing and configuring field devices in an automation installation, where the functions and the data of these field devices is provided in information packets and a user at a client device can integrate and configure the field devices into a system. The problem addressed is that the information packets are processed at a server device and so there is intensive interaction between the client and server which can result in a bottleneck in client/server communications.

The Hearing Officer followed the four step test in Aerotel/Macrossan, reviewed the AT&T signposts (in particular signposts 4 and 5) and found that the claimed invention related to a program for a computer as such. No saving amendment could be identified and the application was refused.
